There's nothing quite like night fishing. You get a chance to get away from the crowds. Just you, nature, and maybe a few mosquitos. And of course, the fish... and an "Evening Secret".

You see, there's a natural biological process that takes place in certain patches of water. It has to do with mother natures "food chain" cycle.

It all starts with the "phytoplankton" organisms (the plant form of plankton) which are the first link in the chain (at the bottom). They are little organisms that live in every body of water (both freshwater and saltwater). They drift along in large clusters.

And wherever they are drifting, you are sure to find the next link in the chain. The "zooplankton" organisms - the animal form of plankton. They feed like crazy on the phytoplankton.

And next...you have the bait fish, feeding on the zooplankton like mad! Minnows, shad, small blue gill, sardines, you name it. The smaller fish come to feed on the zooplankton.

And finally...the big game fish...the reason that YOU are out there in the first place. To catch the heck out of them.

Now, if you've ever been in a fishing hot spot, and you are catching fish like crazy, chances are you stumbled upon one of these hot spots.by accident. Fun isn't it?

Wherever there is a high concentration of these plankton organisms - you'll find a fishing hot spot!

Finding them is the tricky part. You want to look at water running off from vegetation into the main body of water. Remember, phytoplankton are the plant forms of plankton...and water runoff will drag them in by the millions of plant leaves and other vegitation.

And sometimes...large patches will be drifting out in the open.

It really is hit or miss. Just keep a lookout for a bunch of "white clusters" flotating the water...you'll probably also see the swarm of baitfish feeding on them as well.
